And so it begins.

This blog is about my weight loss surgery, nothing more, nothing less. I whine, rant and ramble on my other blog. I want this to be a record of my surgery, weight loss and what happens along the way.

Last March/April I asked my GP to refer me for weight loss surgery, at that time I wanted the gastric band. I received an appointment for September. I expected to be told that I wasn't big enough, but shock, horror I was big enough, and with type II diabetes just diagnosed an ideal candidate.

The referral Dr spoke with me privately first and outlined what was going to happen. The gastric band was not an option because of it's failure rate, so she said I'd be getting a sleeve gastrectomy, now I'd never heard of this before, but I knew that anything with 'ectomy' at the end meant removing something and as gastric relates to the stomach, I did get the general idea.

What a SG entails is they cut away and remove most of my stomach, while leaving a pouch which will hold around 50mls, the reason it's called 'sleeve' is because that's what my remaining stomach will look like, a straight tube from my oesophagus to my intestines.
